Background Check

Information on how to fill out the on-line Background Check for Adults involved in an EVAA program. 

Background Check Policy

Eastview Athletic Association (EVAA) requires background checks for its board of directors, sport program directors, program board members, coaches, assistant coaches, or anyone who has direct dealings with children or direct access to financial information, as well as others, in order to ensure the safety and well being of EVAA’s athletes and volunteers.

A background check will be completed annually for any members subject to this policy.  Members are to submit information for a background check through the registration link found on this page (Upper Right).  Coaches may be required to submit additional information such as proof of concussion certification.

Background checks are performed by NCSI, LLC, which is the sole provider endorsed by the National Council of Youth Sports.  The process provides the most comprehensive screen, running 20 checks in 50 states including:

  • In-depth identity verification
  • Name/address trace and SSN validation
  • County criminal records search
  • Statewide search using official repository
  • Multi-jurisdictional database search
  • Sex-offender registry search
  • Re-verification of criminal records
  • Fair Credit Reporting Act compliance

EVAA pays for the background checks out of its administrative budget, which is funded by an administrative fee included in all EVAA sport registrations.  All volunteers will provide consent at the time of registration via the informed consent statement in the registry.  

All registration data is encrypted for privacy and Social Security numbers are redacted in all reports.  Results of the background checks will be secured and only accessible by the current EVAA President and Security Director.

Results from all background checks will be reviewed to determine if the results include any of the disqualifying information.  If disqualifying information is found, the coach/volunteer candidate may not be allowed to participate as an EVAA volunteer, or their participation may be limited in accordance with the guidelines in this policy.

A volunteer who is found guilty of any of the offenses listed below will be disqualified or limited in their participation per the guidelines in this policy.  

  1. All sexual offenses, regardless of the amount of time since the offense.  Examples include, but are not limited to: child molestation, rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, statutory rape, prostitution, solicitation,indecent exposure.
  2. All felonies that constitute crimes against a person, regardless of the amount of time since the offense.  Examples include, but are not limited to: murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, kidnapping, robbery.
  3. All misdemeanors that constitute offenses against a person within the past ten (10) years.  Examples include, but are not limited to:  drug offenses, theft, embezzlement, fraud, burglary, simple assault,domestic violence, hit and run.
  4. All misdemeanor drug and alcohol offenses within the past two (2) years or multiple of such offenses within the past ten (10) years.  Examples include, but are not limited to:  driving under the influence, simple drug possession, disorderly conduct, public intoxication or possession of drug paraphernalia.
  5. Any offense within the past five (5) years that could be considered a potential danger to children or demonstrates a propensity for violence.  

The EVAA Executive Committee is not limited by the above list and reserves the right to disqualify a candidate or limit his/her participation as a volunteer where, in the sole opinion of the EVAA Executive Committee, such is in the best interest of EVAA’s youth athletes and volunteers.

A disqualified candidate will receive written notification of their disqualification, as well as the method for appealing the decision within 10 days of the disqualifying report being received by EVAA.  Notice will be sent by EVAA in by email (hard copy if requested).  The disqualified candidate may request an Appeal Hearing within 10 days of the receipt of the disqualification notice and members from EVAA’s Executive Committee will hear the appeal at the soonest available time but no longer than 10 days from the time the Appeal Hearing is requested. The disqualified candidate may present information or documentation to the Executive Committee members to dispute the findings of the background check and make a case for reinstatement or relief from the limitations set per this policy.  The Executive Committee members hearing the appeal will issue a decision within 5 days of the Appeal Hearing.
