Inhouse Tennis Information
Inhouse tennis provides basic skills development within a team or group format. The 2008 season has both a Ralleyball team format for the younger ages and standard group tennis format for the older ages. A player’s clinic, sponsored by Eastview High School tennis coaches, will be held in May.
Choices of nights are offered for Inhouse tennis:
Mon/Wed/Sat Session: Practices on Monday and Wednesday evenings with Ralleyball/matches on Saturday mornings
Tues/Thurs/Sat Session: Practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with Ralleyball/matches on Saturday mornings
There is also an 'All Nights' option which allows attendance at all practice sessions.
For grades K through 3, teams of approximately 10 are formed with a parent volunteer as the team manager. Instructional drills and games are organized by the coaching staff for the week night practices. Ralleyball matches are played on Saturday mornings. Ralleyball is a program designed for the younger players. It is a simplified form of tennis that allows juniors with little or no tennis experience to play team tennis within a game format. The key element of the format is teaching kids to "rally" the ball over the net. To start each rally the ball is put into play by a coach tossing it to a player. Players score one point for their team each time the ball successfully crosses the net. All play is timed. This is a fun and fantastic way for the beginning player to be introduced to the game and still be involved on a team.
For grades 4 through 8, teams or groups of approximately 10 are formed. If participation numbers support teams, a parent volunteer will be the team manager. Teams or groups will be divided based on skill level. Week night practices consist of instructional drills and games organized by the coaching staff. Saturday morning consists of both singles and doubles match play against players/teams at the same skill level. The coaching staff organizes the matches, monitors play, and provides instruction during match play.
Inhouse tennis offers the opportunity to learn and play in a setting that emphasizes Fun, Fitness, and Friends. The programs follow the format of the USTA Junior Team Tennis programs and are organized to match players of similar age and ability. Drills and competition are kept in perspective with each player's abilities and interest.
